5 Specifications, 5 Constraints

Post 9 – 2025 : Top 5 specifications, top 5 constraints
3 Comments

For my project, I am working on making a stained glass terrarium. I am going to corporate the following elements, wood, glass, hinges, and glass paint.

Top 5 Specifications

  1. I want my terrarium’s aesthetic to take first priority. I think the look of it is what I want to focus on is most most valuable point.
  2. Secondly, I want to make it stable. If I am going to put plants in, it should be leakproof and easy to clean
  3. I want to make the designs of roof slanted
  4. I would like to add hinges to the terrarium if I have the time to
  5. I want to try and add lights if possible

Next, what are the top 5 constraints you face? Time, money, skills, supplies, ideas, room to work? Which ones will be the toughest to deal with?

Top 5 Constraints

  1. Finding the glass to fit the proportions I am looking for
  2. Acquire wood that works well with the structure
  3. Have all my wood pieces be similar sizes and type of wood
  4. Choose what method of wood cutting I want to try (machine cutting or laser cutting)
  5. Get all my work done in time

Hey Jessica! I love the project and aesthetic you are designing around!

I have a bunch of stained glass sheets that I do not need anymore if you are still looking! Not sure if they will be the right proportions but feel free to reach out on Slack if you are interested. I hope the rest of your project is going well!

    Hello Jessica,
I agree that the project’s aesthetic must be prioritized. Although some pieces are functional, they will all be displayed in some way. I wonder if you could get some glass that is not being used for other projects in the engineering center and cut it. I am also having difficulty getting the work done on time, but I bet if you keep working at it, you will finish on time. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Garrison! I’ll look into finding glass in the engineering center!
