Over the last 4 months I have been working on combining my engineering skills with certain aesthetics. This is a critical skill because not only do I want my designs to be functional, but I also want all my designs to be visually appealing. Throughout the semester I worked on how I can design products that not only function as intended but also are visually appealing and fit into a certain aesthetic.
Tropical Lamp – Aesthetics of Design
Pictured above is my upcycle project from early on in the semester. I recycled a used tiki torch and combined it with an old lamp to make a tropical themed lamp that can be used indoors to bring a little bit of the tropical vibe to any room.
Rustic Farm Style Fountain Build – Aesthetics of Design
Above is my final design project. It is a rustic farm style fountain. For this design I opted to keep it simple to limit any complications with the manufacturing process. I believe that this design turned out great, especially given the time frame I had for the manufacturing portion of this project. I especially like how the water basin turned out with all the rocks, It definitely fits the aesthetic I was going for.
Through these two projects I learned a lot about all the different aesthetics that exist in my world and how I can grow as a person to appreciate all of them. I also learned the origin of a lot of different aesthetics, which was fascinating to see how major events in history shaped design and how new aesthetics were born from those designs.

Hello Ben, I really enjoyed reading your post. I specifically enjoyed how you chose two completely different aesthetics during your two class projects. I think you absolutely achieved that rustic farm style aesthetic in your fountain build. Do you think you would do anything differently if you completed this project again?
