Electric Car Design – Charlotte Smalley

Being part of the build team for the “Tell Me You’re an Electric Car” project, I worked in person with three group members while two others contributed as online designers, which required us to balance hands on building with clear communication. We started by planning the structure and dividing roles, and I was responsible for creating the front section of the car and designing the headlights using recycled clear plastic, as well as helping cut and shape the exterior. Working with cardboard was more difficult than expected because it bends and tears easily, so I had to adjust my approach and problem solve throughout the process. It was also important to stay connected with the online designers so we could accurately bring their ideas into the physical build. During our second build day, we focused on assembling everything and making final adjustments, which required teamwork and flexibility. In the end, it was rewarding to see all of our contributions come together into a finished car. This project helped me improve my collaboration skills, adapt to challenges, and understand how design and construction work together!
