Electric Car Design Project

For this project, my team designed and built a retro-futuristic electric car model out of cardboard, inspired by the Hyundai N Vision 74. We leaned into cardboard’s naturally boxy properties to replicate the car’s geometric aesthetic, incorporating defining features such as an exaggerated lip, fenders, grilles, long rectangular headlights, and fog lights spanning the bumper width, blending classic American muscle-car cues with futuristic elements. Rather than using CAD or laser cutting, we took a hands-on, intuition-driven approach, relying on tracing, approximations, and relief cuts to shape the bodywork. The main challenges were scheduling and the extra rework that came with our freeform method, but the end result was a fun, creative build that landed in the spirit of retrofuturism.
