This is the final design of our electric car. It is intended to be a design adaptable to a sports car, SUV, coupe, or sedan alike. Its primary features are the curved hood and geometric panels which create a visual contrast.
Project Description
This project was a group effort to design a good looking front end for an electric car at about a quarter scale. Many electric cars have fronts that look a bit “off”, they either scream “I’m electric” loudly and obnoxiously or try to mask their lack of air intake will a tacky fake grill.
This project involved building a scale model for the front third of an electric car to address some of these aesthetic issues by focusing on elements like the front grill, headlights, and side mirrors.

The team began the design process with several sketches. The one above shows more of a sports car design with more ornate headlights and a curved hood with some geometric patterns.

This sketch was used as the main front profile of the car and determined the general front view design. It also features contrast between curved and geometric parts.

This sketch gives another angle to the design and shows how the wheel wells will look and gives some more description to the lighting and side profile of the car. This was used to create the side view design of the car.

The design was comprised primarily from two parts at the start. Those parts were the front and side profile defined by the sketches shown above. This was important because the silouette of a car has a lot of impact on its aesthetics espeicially at speed or from a far.
To add the surface to the car we cut many lines in the top sheet of cardboard to allow it to bend and then hot glued to it the “frame” to fasten it. Side panels were then cut out to match the wheel wells and were hot glued on accordingly.
