Upcycle Project: Victorian Style Lamp

I designed this lamp focused on the defining qualities of the Victorian aesthetic. For the exterior, I layered a white tshirt and a blue sweater over the frame. Blue and white were prominent colors during the Victorian period, creating a sense of refinement to reflect the royal family that the aesthetic is based off of. It was also meant to reflect the drapery and upholstery from Victorian interiors. I used metallic necklace chains to show the influence the Industrial Revolution had on the era and its aesthetic. The chains also add an ornate/decorative quality that helps the overall look.

Overall, I believe the lamp captures the essence of the Victorian aesthetic. I failed and learned a lot working with fabrics, and will take some hard earned lessons with me going into the final project. Regardless, it was a ton of fun to build and ideate over the past few weeks since I love the look of the era so much. The contrast between ornament and machinery or light colored fabric and exposed metal is so pleasing to me as an engineer.
