As mentioned in my last update, my initial concepts of incorporating a plasma globe or electric arc were dissuaded against by Tim May. Moving forward, I am now focusing on creating a light display through use of a centralized object and light source. I intend for the central element to produce an interesting ambient lighting effect.
Luckily, instead of having to purchase the wood for the hourglass structure, I found a suitable piece of remnant wood in the ITLL workshop. I am planning on taking this piece to the CINC when there is availability to CNC cut the proper dimensions.
As for the hourglass portion of the design, I have had no luck in finding a used hourglass to scrap. Additionally, most hourglass forms are sealed on either end. This limits me from being able to install anything within the glass. While researching other options, I came across a Chemex coffee maker with essentially the same form as an hourglass. I think I will buy one this week in order to measure the correct dimensions for the CNC machine. I plan on cutting grooves for the edges of the glass so that it fits into the structure nicely.
For the three vertical columns that will run between the wood bases, I have not decided whether to use wood dowels or other means. However, once I purchase the Chemex I am hoping that the design will start to manifest toward my desired aesthetic.

It is unfortunate that you weren’t able to create the plasma globe. That would have been so cool! I can see where the complications come in with creating the arc itself and introducing noble gasses into the environment. Hourglass scrap is certainly hard to find, you may have to resort to just buying an hourglass.
