Final Project – Washi Paper Lamps

For my final project, I designed and fabricated two handmade washi (rice) paper lamps from scratch, inspired by traditional Japanese lighting design. The subject of this project focuses on the intersection between light, material, and form. This washi paper and simple structural frames were used to create functional yet expressive objects. The aesthetic I was aiming for is warm, minimal, and organic. Emphasizing soft ambient lighting and natural textures that create a calming environment.
Overall, I had a great time completing this project. Not only did I learn a lot about making these lamps, but I also gained a deeper appreciation of the professionally made ones and perfect minimalism.
