Upcycle: Ian Manz

This is my Final upcycle project after spending weeks on it! This is my Memphis lamp made out of PVC, a bed foot, and a patio light. Memphis was an Italian design group founded by Ettore Sottsass in the 80s, and speaks to simplicity with a touch of flair. Bright colors, weird yet simple shapes, and patterns was wah adds character to this aesthetic.

Some of the Memphis-style lamps I was looking at online were very plain, and had no patterns on them. I myself am not the best painter, let alone a spray painter. My orange spray painting was very uneven due to the curvature of the pipe. So, I decided to paint the shapes and patterns I included in my initial journey post describing the aesthetic. Therefore, the end result is an upcycled, “ENCOMPASED Memphis Lamp”. It is fully usable too. The light automatically turns on when there is no light present, making it perfect to use when late-night grinds require more light and a dash of flair!
