Top 5 Constraints

First Constraint: Size
The overall size of the project should be fairly small in my opinion. The classic, bamboo water fixture is often associated with a petite and compact size, therefore, in order to fix the aesthetic it should be the same.

Second Constraint: Material/ Resource
As I said in my previous post, I plan to use bamboo to create a Japanese fountain aesthetic. The natural texture of the bamboo and the color are essential factors in this design. However, I feel that bamboo would be a bit difficult to find and work with. Therefore, the material I use will definitely be a constraint on the project.

Third Constraint: Location of Setup
This project deals heavily with the flow of water and will therefore have to be near a water source when setup. Creating a built-in water tank is an idea, but in order to keep the project simple we may need to be located close to a sink or some other water source in order for it to function properly.

Fourth Constraint: Functionality
I feel that a big part of this aesthetic or more particularly, this Japanese water fountain is the sound of water. The design of the fountain must remain simple so that it can match the soothing sounds of the flow of water. For this reason, one of the constraints is that the final project must work. It has to channel water from a source and be able to recycle it so the water can flow constantly.

Fifth Constraint: Aesthetic
As previously stated, the main aesthetic of this project is the style behind Japanese water fountains. The key here is to use minimal but tasteful cuts in bamboo or some natural element to create a working fountain. The minimalistic approach to the design is then exemplified by the flow of the water and the soothing sound that comes with that.

I think that these constraints will be fun to try and work through. Some of them may be difficult to figure out, but your project looks like you should be able to achieve a lot of these things!

I love the Japanese aesthetic and I think the bamboo looks really cool. I can also tell you were pretty thoughtful in your constraints.

  • I like the aesthetics of the Japanese fountain. I have heard about the Shishi-odoshi fountains that make a sound when the bamboo is filled up, not sure if your fountain is similar to that. But anyway, the idea is very cool! I guess you are able to buy some bamboo online to work with. Good luck on the project!

I think the location of setup will be your hardest obstacle. Maybe you can have a water reservoir with a pump so that iot does not have to be near a sink. I think your project is aswesome!
