Main Project Aesthetic : Matt Holleb

For my main project, I have decided to progress with a modern lighting fixture that resembles an aesthetic from LukelampCo. They do a really beautiful job at designing light fixtures that appear sleek and clean to the eye. Although when you approach and see the detail you can notice the texture and the way the light leaks through the weaved rope. The company LukelampCo has an abundance of luminaire designs from ranging in size to rope placements as well as finishing colors. Though I would say they make the biggest and most influential impact with their unique and flexible lighting design. This is the piece that I plan on focusing on when creating my light and how I plan on making it stand out. Of the sketches I created, one is based on a desk lamp that would use a more organic shape in the rope/luminaire. It would only stand a few feet tall in comparison to the larger and taller Floor lamp design below. This design would ideally be at least 6 ft fall and feature and straighter / simpler rope design. For both of these light designs, I would like to use a dark or black metal for the stand. In addition to that, I plan on using some kind of LED strip and adhering it to a flexible cord that would be used as the core of the rope. This means finding either a hollow white rope or some sort of semi-translucent PVC pipe that is flexible. With the LED strip, core, and rope being flexible, I should be able to bend the light into any shape I desire. Due to the rope being open-ended, I would glue the end to some sort of connecting attachment that would be screwed into the stand. With all of these items assembled, there should be room for the light cord to pass through the pipe stand and out to be plugged in. I think this design is definitely feasible and I am excited to see what I come up with because I plan on using it in my apartment.

It will interesting to see what you chose for flexible tubing because it has to be flexible enough to move, but also stiff enough to not droop. I really like the design and the aesthetic because it looks really modern and its an interesting sculpture.

    Matt,
I really like the inspiration for this project. Do you think the sketching exercise helped you envision the artifact more?
