My goal for this upcycling project is to find a new life for a broken tiki torch like the one in the featured image. I will try to capture the tropical and beach aesthetic of the tiki torch while giving it a new use more suitable for indoors perhaps.

An Idea that I had would be to somehow save the cylindrical section of tiki torch and use that as the base of the lamp.

This would look something like the pottery barn lamp shown above. I would try and emphasize the cross hatched wood pattern to emphasize the tropical design of the tiki torch.

This image depicts the cylindrical sections that I would use for the base of the lamp. I would have to remove the gas tank from within the torch structure, so then it would just be a matter of adding a lighting aspect to the center of the cylinder.

I greatly enjoyed reading your post. I have seen these tiki torches before at restaurants and tiki bars with the same tropical aesthetic. I really like the idea that you are able to find new use for this object once it no longer works for its original intended purpose. Creating this item for use without the hazardous flame may make it more user friendly.

Do you intend to locate the light bulb in the same location as the original flame? Have you decided how you will remove the leftover fuel from the tiki torch? Thanks for posting!

  • I love the tropical aesthetic and I’m excited to see how it out! Also, I like the idea of reusing something that is meant to be outdoors and bringing it into an indoor setting. It shows you are thinking outside of the box. Is there a certain lighting you are trying to get out of the lamp and do you think it will be a difficult process to bet from point A to the finish product?
