I did not start the physical building this past week, but I did most of the preliminary work on the project. I measured the dimensions of the Hennessy bottle using calipers to ensure that I got an accurate fitting on my base and the lamp conversion. Based on the measurements, I determined that I would most likely use a 3D model adapter for the lamp conversion kit. I also finalized how big the indent on the base will be for my modeling. The CAD modeling is the most significant progress I made this past week. I took a little while doing the CAD modeling because I was unsure about how to make the lamp’s base.
Picture 1: Isometric view of hoop base
I started with the base, inspired by a basketball hoop, as shown above. I modeled the rim at the top by rotating a circle of the correct dimensions around an axis. I then made some simple lofts to replicate the net string of the nets that went down to the base, which is a white ring, to improve stability. For finishing touches, I added text on the top of the rim.
Picture 2: Top view of hoop base
This text was LeBron James’ name, the number of MVP trophies he won, and then the number of championships he won. If I implement this plan, I will use orange filament while 3D printing the rim, and then the white filament will be the net, bottom, and text color.

After finishing this model, I went to get the opinions of my roommates about the prototype CAD model and threw around other possible ideas. At the same time, brainstorming ways to push forward a sporty aesthetic and keep up with the LeBron James theme, one of my roommates suggested using LeBron James’ logo as the base.
Picture 4: Isometric view of logo base
The completed model for the logo base is pictured above. To do this, I found an image of Lebron’s logo on Google and opened it up in Apple’s built-in image viewer. I then used the crop tool to get the length of the notable features of the logo in pixels. After these dimensions had been gathered and recorded, I used them to recreate the logo in SolidWorks. After completing the logo, I added supports between its floating components and an indent on the top to place the bottle.
Picture 5: Top view of logo base
This is the top view of the logo model. I made an indent to make a place for the bottle. I am going to use my 3D printer to fabricate this base. Similar to the previous idea, this print will have multiple colors. The main elements of the logo, the L, J, and crown, will be printed in matte black filament, while the supporting material in between the components will be white.
Picture 6: Epoxy Kit from Amazon
The main work included 3D printing, but I have also factored suggestions from my last post into the design. I am looking into putting dyed epoxy into the bottle to give the appearance of a full bottle and increase the sports bar’s aesthetic appeal. So, a part of the work done on the project was researching the easiest and cheapest ways to do this regarding my schedule. I put a picture of the epoxy I am most likely to use above. I am ordering the conversion kit this week and printing the base this weekend.

Love this project; great way to honor the GOAT. I really like the idea of using the logo as the base and I am excited to see the final product.
This is up there for some of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Love what you’re doing here, I was just telling my roommate we need a bottle as a keepsake. Will you put a light in the bottle ? Or use the stand as the light. Good luck on the rest of the project !
