Portfolio – Allister James Sequeira

Over the course of this semester, I’ve explored how form, light, and perception can come together to shape compelling visual narratives. Through both the Upcycle and Main Projects, I was able to push myself creatively while applying engineering and fabrication skills in meaningful, artistic ways.

Upcycle Project: CU Logo Backlit Wall Decor

Inspired by school pride and a desire to create meaningful wall art, my Upcycle project took shape as a layered, laser-cut CU Buffaloes logo featuring backlit yellow LEDs. Using cardboard as the primary material allowed me to explore laser cutting for depth and contrast, while the dual transformation from gold in daylight to glowing gold at night played with perception and CU’s black-and-gold identity.

This project introduced me to aesthetic themes like modern minimalism, industrial ruggedness, and futuristic lighting, and I’m proud of how such a simple material yielded such a dynamic visual outcome.

Main Project: Dual-Perspective Kinetic Sculpture

My main project explored the idea of perception shift through movement, creating a 3D sculpture that presents two distinct forms when viewed from different angles. Using CAD, 3D printing, and a rotating base with a motor, I designed swappable sculptures that attach to a custom pin and rotate 90 degrees to reveal the hidden perspective.

This project was as much about illusion and timing as it was about fabrication. The aesthetic leaned toward minimalism and surprise. I kept the sculptures monochrome intentionally—so the true identity of the object is only revealed at the moment of rotation.

Biggest takeaways included mastering mechanical integration, iterating clean transitions in CAD, and finding the balance between artistic intention and manufacturability. This project helped me grow in precision, patience, and presentation.

Final Thoughts

This class gave me space to experiment, question, and reimagine. I leave the semester with two fully realized projects that showcase different sides of my design identity—one driven by school spirit and light, and the other by curiosity and motion. I’m excited to continue exploring the space where engineering meets emotion, and where design invites discovery.
