Final Stretch Progress: Rotary Candle Holder

It is nearly crunch time! But honestly, this project is in a pretty good place right now. I worked on it quite a bit before break because I knew the next few weeks would be hectic in all my other classes as well. Last I worked on it, I finalized my sketch and prototype and started ordering parts. In fact, my first wave of parts arrived just before break. The next wave will be arriving in the coming days. There are pros and cons about my placement in this project right now, as follows:

The pros:

  1. I know what I want to build. I have a vision of what my final project will be.
  2. I finalized my sketch (see the featured image above).
  3. I already purchased the candle (for dimension basis), candle holder, arm, fan, pads, and blue paper for under the base.
  4. I have a list of what needs to still be purchased (see cons list).

The cons:

  1. I still have to purchase some items:
    1. Frosted Glass for Pond Base – Looking like best option is McGuckins
    2. Aluminum for Skater Silhouette – Either McGuckins or McMaster-Carr
    3. Snowflake Ornaments – Amazon
    4. Fishing Line (for Ornaments) – McGuckins
  2. I still have to cut and finish the glass once it arrives.
  3. Once the aluminum is purchased, must get it cut (Laser cut, CNC mill, or water jet? I’m thinking water jet).

I love your featured image and your project idea. Just looking at the image, I had an idea for the frozen lake. It works even if you’re short on time. You can use any clear acrylic you can find, maybe even scrap material in the ITLL. Then paint one side using Acrylic paint (light-grayish blue). I have so many paint colors so if you need to borrow some, let me know. You can engrave the scratches and make swirly patterns on the acrylic from the other side and maybe fill them in with glitter to give it an icy-magical feel.

This looks like a really cool project! You seem to have everything planned out well. I’m sure you’ll be able to get everything done in time.

There is still time to get everything done. You seem organized and ready for the next step. I appreciate a good pro/con chart, for they really put everything on the table and facilitate productive thought and planning.

It sounds like your project is off to a great start. Yes, you still have a solid amount of work to do, but I don’t think that you’ll run out of time or not have enough time. I like that you mapped out all of the pros and cons of your project. Looks like as of now the pros weigh out the cons.
