My Upcycle Project is a lamp that takes inspiration from the Steampunk Aesthetic. This has parts like pipes, cogs, metal wire, etc. I have collected all the material I believe I will need in this project. I have a bunch of small plastic gears that are all bronze, gold, and silver to match the color aesthetic that steampunk has. I also have the parchment paper from my kitchen that I am using as the lampshade. I will be combining the gear and the parchment paper to make the whole of the shade. The gears will be a collage like the image below. I feel like this will have a good texture and interfere with the light bulb to make it not look perfect, but incredibly complicated.
For the base, I will be using a bike rear wheel cassette. I got this from my bike. I needed to replace it since there were several chips and my bike chain kept skipping. It was covered in grease, paint, and dirt that I tried to remove. I was successful at getting the grease off. In doing so, I chipped some of the paint, exposing the silver side of the gears. I feel like this adds to the aesthetic of it being used. I also feel like there is enough weight to hold it down. Below is a picture of my old bike gear cassette.
For the main structure of the lamp, I plan on using wire. I was originally going to use some wire clothes hangers, but I do not have enough. I was able to find a spool of wire that I plan on using instead of or with the old wire hangers. This will give me some more freedom in shaping the structure of the lamp and hid components. Some of these will be wires and the light bulb socket that I bought at the store.
Lastly, Steampunk used a lot of fire and steam to produce electricity. I wanted to pay some sort of tribute to this, but did not quite know how. I did not want to implement physical smoke, but still wanted to add something. I found a light bulb that flickers like a flame. Below is an image of the ones I bought. I figured this would really cool and make it seems like something is moving. I though the flickering would be really cool through the gears on the lampshade. It also gives off a hue that matches the rest of the aesthetic

Nice progress report Xander, I like how many different components you have found and been able to repurpose. I think the gears will match perfectly with you bikes old cassette and the wire frame. Will the wire body of the lamp be partially see through or are you planning on using enough wire to give off the impression its solid?
It sounds like you have most of, if not everything, already planned out and in progress. I like the variety in gear shapes, size, and color. It really adds more character to the lamp shade. Since you plan on using parchment paper and attaching plastic gears, I was wondering if it’ll hold its shape or need some support. It was a bit unclear if you planned on using wire for that.
