For my upcycling project I hope to create a functional object. I also want something that would be visually pleasing to the eye. Mixing discarded blankets, towels, and patches of fabric with cement water can provide some wonderful shapes when manipulated properly. After mixing, the fabric is hung over a stool and left to dry. Once hardened, it can be inverted to create a bowl. I plan to expand upon this idea by pre-cutting a hole in the fabric where the base would be once dried. Through this I can insert a light bulb, creating a functional light fixture. Several drafts will be made experimenting with various shapes and sizes of fabric, along with cutting a design of holes in the sides to enhance the light.

Cool idea! Where did you get inspiration for this?
I like this idea! It’s functional but also has so much freedom to it! Are you planning on putting some color on them and make them glow different colors?
I really like this idea. One light fixture will never be the same as another. Definitely a good use of your resources.
I love how out of the box this concept is. I didn’t realize you could just mix together cement water and apply it to fabrics. I’m guessing you will use something on the smaller side, maybe a hand towel or something if it is to be a desk lamp. You could also use these as trash cans or something along those lines.
Very interesting idea Todd! It could make a good pot for some plants if you cut a hole at the bottom and also make a drip tray for it. Excited to see how this turns out!
