Upcycle Inspiration

I was inspired by many kinds of aesthetics that I saw as I was growing up in California. Because of the touristy nature of California in general, I saw many types of “Beachy art”. These types of art pieces often incorporated shells of some type as well as different types of seaglass and driftwood. These were often sold around popular beaches that I went to during my childhood and now.

I am trying to replicate the idea of this beachy type art with the materials that I have available to me in Colorado. I have changed my idea slightly in order to incorporate beer bottles due to the fact that Colorado has such a history engrained in breweries and local beers. I have also been keeping an eye out for rocks and sticks that I think are cool to add to the wind-chime.

I hope for this project to be a constant reminder of the place where I formed important friendships and made memories that will last a lifetime. I want to take it with me when I leave and be able to have literal parts of Colorado no matter where I go because I have fallen in love with this state. In addition, the wind-chime will remind me of where I came from because it is reminiscent of the places I grew up in.

  • This is some really cool and thought out design inspiration! What kind of beer artwork is your favorite for inspiration? I have always been a huge fan of beer labels and would really like to see some kind of upcycle project that incorporates this type of aesthetic.

  • I love this idea! I also grew up in California and am very familiar with the hippy beach wind-chimes. But I never thought about doing a Colorado version. I think you’re on the right track with beer bottles and maybe incorporate some herbal elements or Colorado Columbines. Making look like a cairn might be cool too.

I really like your inspiration. I based my project off of where I grew up. I am making a sailboat becasue I used to sail a lot back in Maryland. I think being able to take Colorado with you is a brilliant idea.
