He was born in Yunlin, Taiwan (TBH, not a prosperous city according to my living experience in Taiwan), and emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 9. His story of how he became a fashion designer is very positive and encouraging. He showed his interest in fashion at a very young age. He loved making clothes for dolls. During that time, Jason was mocked by others because of the stereotype of only girls play with toy dolls and make clothes for them.
But his family still supported him and he started learning sketching and sculpting when he was five years old. He started his career as a designer at the age of 15 when he first designed clothes for dolls for Integrity Toys. When he was 18, he became the creative director of Integrity toy and applied for college simultaneously. Then he went to Parsons School of Design but did not graduate. He has won many international and national awards since 2008.
The link is his official website. You can see his unique elegant design in various kinds of products, including cosmetics, clothing, footwear, etc.
Most of the products listed on his site are not “extremely expensive”, and look quite high quality. Some of the items on sale are even affordable for me as a student! His works are amazing, I love his delicate way to sculpt the fabric. Also the color he chose for the design. With the combination of modern and superior, elegant patterns, Jason Wu’s fashion design is unique but can also be included in a normal one’s daily outfit for office work, or some special occasions, like attending a friend’s party or wedding. I admired him for his extraordinary taste and talent in fashion.
