Rotating Lamp Shade Progress

To sum up my project idea, I’ll be making a lamp shade that will rotate from the rising heat of the light bulb inside the lamp (yes I have older bulbs that produce a lot of heat) in a Goblincore/Cottagecore aesthetic.

The general plan is to make a tube that will be the outside of the lampshade  out of cardstock or thicker paper, colored with colored pencils and markers with some wire to hold its general form, and including punched out shapes of mushrooms, leaves, and small animals in order to project images on my walls.  the top of the lamp shade is this slightly trickier part as it’ll sort of look like a pinwheel so that the rising heat can actually turn the shade.

I haven’t started the construction of the final product yet, but I have accuired a lot of my needed materials.  I made a small prototype to try out the fan or pinwheel type top and it was a little hard to construct.  I have a better idea of how to make the pinwheel “spokes”.  I tried out rectangular pieces before and it didn’t really work, so I think I’ll try more triangular type pieces next time/for my final project.

I’m also thinking of using these thin, plastic circles to end up forming the pinwheel top of the lamp shade instead of paper.  This is mostly so that there’s less chance of spontaneous fire from the light bulb heat, but also because I think that it’ll hold its structure better than paper would.  Other than that, there’s not much I’m not expecting to change whenever I actually construct my final product.

    Hi Juliette,
I think you have made great progress, especially getting over said hurtles with the prototype. I think the triangular end tips will also look great! My question is how long you think your overall manufacturing time will take?

Hi Juliette, your prototype is looking good and it’s cool how you figured out issues with it that you can fix for the final build. I agree that those circular shades will make for a great material for the lamp. Do you plan on gluing these parts together? Good luck on the rest of the project!
