I am building a wall clock for my final project. I plan to use this clock so I need to make sure I like the style. Personally I like the diver watch aesthetics so I am making a wall clock that resembles the style. Below are a few iconic diver watches in the market: (Rolex Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Omega Seamaster from left to right).
The most distinguishable aesthetic features of the dive watches are the outer bezel ring and lumed hands and hour marks. The style of the dial is relatively clean. For my wall clock I will use the simple and clean dial style and make the hour marks pronounced and easy to see. I will not make a bezel ring like on the dive watches because it wouldn’t make sense to use it to time anything while the clock’s hanging on the wall.
My idea is to buy a piece of round shaped aluminum for the dial. I will make the drawing using Solidworks for the dail and use the laser cutter to make the hour marks. The movement will be bought from the shelf. I will use LED lighting behind the dial so that the white light will shine through the hour mark cutouts.
The design looks pretty straight-forward but I have never used the laser cutter before. I am not too sure how well it will go.
