For my final project I am still in my ideation phase but I want to full express my aesthetic so that gives me a good picture. I find a lot of my inspiration from looking to the future and trying to see what part of history is going to repeat itself next. Also, from growing up in a small mountain town and being exposed to nature all the time a lot of my inspirations come from the outdoors. The complexity and math that goes into what a forest is has always blown my mind and always has more to explore deeper into. Recently I have been inspired by the Gothic era as well as the Burgundians. The use of clothing to accentuate ones self and express your character is only becoming more popular and I think their use of colors and techniques might come back. I have been creating clothing and want my medium to be fabric for the final project. Most of the things I have made have been cut and sew projects and have not been trying for any specific aesthetic. I want to create my own clothing patterns and sew some unique shirt/pants. Creating my own pattern will be hard but I think if I study some artists that I really like I could start to modify a simple pattern and see where it goes. While this is my first idea I want to do something related to my interest in sewing and something my inner child would want to wear. Taking inspiration from what I did for my upcycle project I may incorporate some cyber elements into my final especially if I can create some cool accessory for the pants/shirt. If I were to out of my comfort zone I am not sure what that would look like. I think if I stuck to a very structured and minimalist design for my clothing it wouldn’t feel like my aesthetic. I tried for a long time to force myself into that aesthetic but recently I have been not trying to contain my ideas and allowing myself to show myself authentically. I think that is why I have been drawn to both the Burgundians and the Gothic era. The way they would dress is inspiring because they didn’t have to worry about any corporate job or people trying to put them in a box. The use of bright colors and patters with draping fabrics just makes my mind feel the mystery and allure almost like a moth to a flame. Overall I am really excited for this project and doing this very professionally. Being able to use the tools on campus and doing a project that I can just express my aesthetic and show the world what my design style is makes me so excited. My plan is to start looking at reference and try my hand at sketching clothing, I have tried in the past and it is not my strong suit so doing lots of sketches will help me. If you have any ideas or tips for me let me know I am very open to pivot :).

Collin this looks like such awesome aesthetic to produce, fabric can offer a wide range of space to explore any type of aesthetic your heart desires. What ever you end up choosing, what ever calls out to you the most should be chosen since that is what would offer the greatest amount of creative will and outlet.
Hey Collin,
Your project, drawing from nature, the Gothic era, and Burgundian styles to craft unique clothing, sounds incredibly exciting. Venturing into pattern creation to express your aesthetic is ambitious and showcases your desire to present authentic self-expression. Remember, exploring outside your comfort zone can lead to remarkable discoveries. Can’t wait to see the vibrant, expressive pieces you’ll bring to life!
Best of luck!
Hey Collin,
Looking forward to seeing how your self designed and self sown clothes look like! The cyber aesthetic will definitively bring a unique feel to the clothes and I think it will be a great idea to implement some of the gothic aesthetic as well. What is the type of clothing that you are thinking of doing this project with right now?
