Top 5 things I want my project to look like:

Sleek

Lighted

Contrasting

Speakeasy-esque

Industrial

Feel like:

Classy

Eloquent

Fitted

Polished

Sharp

Do:

Display bottles

Light from the bottom

Change light color

Sit flat

Store easily

What will tell me I’ve succeeded:

The expression of awe from those that see it for the first time.

What I am prioritizing:

A good looking, dark piece of wood is crucial, specifically sized slots for the different bottles is not as big of a priority as their being lights. Without lights on the bottom plate there is no project. What can be done instead is to have circular acrylic pieces that are used on top of the lights allowing the bottles to sit flat.

Top 5 constraints:

Cost

Workshop availability

Motivation

Limited electrical expertise

Waiting to sample the liquor

The toughest to deal with will most likely be the motivation to start the project early and also to cost effectively acquire the materials.

Here is a sneak peak at the bottles that will be displayed as part of the project.

Nice post Chris! I find your project particularly exciting because I relate to wanting a nice way to show off my favorite bottles, especially the fancy ones. One question I had for you was do you plan on doing any sort of finishing treatment like a stain for the wood? I found your constraint of waiting to open the bottle amusing as well.

      Peter,
Thanks for the comment, I am glad you enjoyed the post. I did find a stain that I will be using and it is called cognac which I found fitting. Keep an eye out for the final project.

  • Chris, your vision for a project that merges the sleek, industrial look with the intimate vibe of a speakeasy is captivating. Considering the central role of lighting in your project, how do you plan to navigate your limited electrical expertise to achieve the desired dynamic and atmospheric lighting effects?

      Jon,
Great comment, I was lucky enough to find a set of LED lights that were exactly what I needed. Color changing, sleek, plug into the wall yet the only downfall is that they are not independently color changing.
