My mom has always been an amazing woman, and I am usually very poor at getting her gifts for her birthday, Mothers Day, etc. This year I plan on taking advantage of this project to help make something for my mom for Mothers Day. My mom always says she likes the gifts we make for her more than any gifts we buy her so I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to make something cool for her. She is always losing her jewelry around the house and does not have a good spot to keep it so I plan on making a jewelry box.

I plan on making a the jewelry box out of wood, which I plan on giving a nice finish. I want the jewelry box to have a lower compartment that pops out when the lid is opened. Although my original inspiration for this feature was simply the dynamic component that is necessary for the project, I do believe it will add to the jewelry box. The worry I have with this lower drawer is that the mechanics behind the opening feature will be weak and take away from the box as a whole.

Really like the idea of making a gift and a jewelry box gives you a lot of creative legroom. A smaller project will also help to to make something extremely aesthetically pleasing. If you wanted the design to pop even more, you could laser etch some designs on the wood faces.
