Final Report Part 2

This semester was mostly focused on my senior design however I enjoyed spending time working on my aesthetics project. Aesthetics of Design helped give me new inspirations for sketching and implementing aesthetics into designs. I enjoyed creating my upcycle project and using blue plastic to represent the ocean. I’ve found an interest in creating art…

Final Report Part 1

For my aesthetics project I focused on improving the functionality of a chair. I purchased a tall chair from a thrift store and improved the interior space of the chair to utilize storage. I purchased multiple drawers and implemented them into  the overall design. This project was mainly completed using my woodworking experience. Special thanks…

Main Project Final Stretch

I’ve gathered the materials required to complete the drawer chair. I’m a little behind schedule however I plan on using this weekend to catch up and complete the assembly. After completion I’ll have time to adjust the aesthetic using paint or weathering to capture the vintage aesthetic. Overall I’m about 60% complete.

Current vs. 20th Century Design Movement

For my main project I’m taking an old chair and refurbishing it with new aesthetics. My goal is to combine the minimal and vintage aesthetics and increase the functionality of the chair by potentially adding a drawer. Compared to other chairs with the 20th century design aesthetic, my piece will have a straight and rigid…

Design Review Report

For my main project I’m creating a piece of furniture with varying aesthetics. More specifically, i’m focusing on refurbishing a chair and implementing a drawer below the seat. This increases the functionality of the chair while maintaining the overall aesthetic. I’m focusing on implementing the minimal aesthetic as well as a modern or vintage aesthetic…

Top 5 Constraints

For my final project I’m creating a functional furniture piece with varying aesthetics. These are the top five constraints for my final project. Aesthetic types: In my previous post I mentioned the use of the minimal and vintage aesthetic. I think i’d be best to constrain my project to these two aesthetic types so I…

Main Project Inspirations: Minimalism & Vintage

For my main project I’m focusing on combining the minimalism and vintage aesthetics. Creating a piece that represents both aesthetics is a bit tricky but with the right foundation I think I can create a piece that intertwines both aesthetics and serves as a functional piece. Some initial ideas I have focus on taking an…

Skill Sets & Personal Aspirations

Through my experience in the ME Department I’ve gained experience using 3D modeling programs, coding in MATLAB, and using Engineering Equation Solver (EES) for complicated homework problems. Overall improving my problem solving skills. I’ve also gained experience using mills, lathes, and welding…

Upcycle Final Report: Island

For my upcycle project I created an image with upcycled materials. I used plastic bottles to create an ocean and symbolize the problem with ocean plastic and the detrimental effects it plays on the ecosystem. I created an image of an island using cardboard, paper, and artificial leaves to overall create a palm tree. It…

Upcycle Project: Inspiration and Progress

Last class we created drawings based off given ideas. My team and I worked on creating a drawing that included minimalism and an electric toothbrush. As seen in the image above, I focused on creating the toothbrush while simplifying the overall design. For my upcycle project I will incorporate plastic trash, cardboard, and other resources…

Upcycle Progress: Plastic Waste

Plastic waste has a significant impact on the environment. Since most plastics are not degradable i’ve decided to use this material for my upcycle project. I’ve also been inspired from companies like Parley and Adidas who created products from plastic waste in the ocean. These types of products satisfy customer demands while also helping the…

Aesthetic Exploration: Android Jones

Andrew “Android” Jones is a U.S. visual artist. His art can be described as Electromineralism with an influence of Pop-Shamanism.
